Turnitin Plagiarism Review

 

Note: An assignment using Turnitin in the manner outlined below must be graded using the Canvas SpeedGrader in order for the grade to populate in the Canvas Grade center.

  1. Sign in to the Canvas course site.
  2.  

  3. Click on Assignments in the left-hand course navigation menu.Assignment link in the left-hand course navigation menu is selected, so the Assignments page displays.

  5. Click the +Assignment button located in the top right-hand corner of the page.
    +Group and +Assignment buttons located at the top, right-hand side of the page.
  6.  

  7. Enter an Assignment name into the box provided and customize the following assignment settings to meet your needs:
    1. Group assignment
    2. Peer reviews
    3. Moderated grading
    4. Points Assignment group
    5. Display grade as
    6.  

  8. Select Online as the assignment Submission Type.
    From the Submission type drop-down menu, File Uploads is selected.

  10. Choose File Uploads under the Online entry options.
  11.  

  12. Select Turnitin from the Plagiarism Review drop-down menu.
    From the Plagiarism Review drop-down menu, Turnitin is selected.
  13.  

  14. Customize the following Turnitin plagiarism settings:
    1. Store submissions in;
    2. Compare submissions against;
    3. Similarity Report;
    4. Enable grammar checking using ETS® e-rater® technology.
    5. Show originality report to students.

  16. Check the Assign to setting to ensure the assignment is assigned to the appropriate individuals. Typically, you want the default Everyone.
    Assign to options including individuals in the course, due date, and availability dates.

  18. Set the Due date as appropriate using the calendar button in the Due field.
  19.  

  20. Set the Available from and Until dates as appropriate. This provides students a window of opportunity to submit their assignment.
  21.  

  22. Click Save & Publish to save the assignment and publish it for students. Alternatively, click Save to save the assignments and keep it hidden from students.
    Save options for an assignment are located at the bottom, right-hand side of the page. Options include Cancel, Save & Publish, or Save.

 

Once the assignment is created, a rubric may be added to make grading more efficient and inform students of your expectations on the assignment.
