Creating and Managing Recordings
When you record a Zoom meeting, there are two options as to where to store the recording: on your computer’s hard drive, or in the cloud.
To start a recording, click the Record icon and choose the desired option you.
Record on Computer
This option is available for both basic and pro users.
Unless you select a specific location, the recording will be stored in a default folder.
- PC: This PC > Documents > Zoom
- Mac: Documents > Zoom
Once the conversion process is complete, the folder containing the recording files will automatically open. By default, the audio/video file (MP4) will be named “Zoom_0.mp4.” The audio only file (M4A) is named “audio_only.m4a.”
Local recording info including the path on your computer is also available in your Zoom account, under My Recordings. This could be particularly helpful in case you do not remember where the recordings were saved.
See the complete guide of local recording here.
Record to the Cloud
This option is available to Pro account users. Request one here (only for UMKC employees).
Record to the cloud will store your recordings on the web in your Zoom account.
- From the Zoom desktop app, click Meetings > Recorded.
- From the Zoom web site (http://umkc.zoom.us), go to the My Recordings link in the left-hand navigation and choose the Cloud Recordings tab.
NOTE: Each Pro user has 1GB storage space, and cloud recordings will be deleted after 90 days automatically. Archive your recordings in time by downloading them to your computer hard drive or link them to Kaltura (See Sharing Zoom recordings in a Canvas Course for instructions).
To view or edit your cloud recordings, click on the recording name. You will be able to edit the title, view, download, share or delete the files.
There are normally 3 files for one recording, the MP4 video, the audio only file, and the transcript. The transcript is automatically generated and can contain errors, which can be edited when you open the MP4 video.
You may share a cloud recording with people by clicking on the Share button. Choose desired options, and copy the recording info for emails, web pages, or post in a Canvas course.
