Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDownBrowser & Monitor (Instructors)

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment in a learning management system (LMS) such as Canvas or Blackboard. Quizzes or tests created for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with standard browsers (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.). When students use LockDown Browser to access a quiz or test, they are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, access other applications, or close a quiz until it is submitted for grading.

If your exam requires use of Respondus Monitor, it is included with the Respondus Lockdown Browser download. The first time Monitor is required in a course for a student, the student will be prompted to pay $10 to use Repondus Monitor in the course. There is no charge to use Respondus Lockdown Browser only.

Respondus LockDown Browser & Monitor (Students)

LockDown Browser is a locked browser for taking quizzes in Canvas. it prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. If a Canvas quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser. 

LockDown Browser must be installed on your computer before you begin a quiz or exam that requires the browser in Canvas. Use the following guides to learn more.

Respondus 4.0

Respondus 4.0 is an exam authoring tool that can assist in creating tests for various learning management systems (LMS) including Canvas and Blackboard. Please note that Respondus 4.0 is compatible with Windows only.
