Semester Kickoff Tips

Before classes start

• Customize your Canvas Dashboard for quick access.
• Combine courses/sections.
• Copy the previous semester’s course content into the new semester’s course site if the course was previously taught in Canvas.
• Using Panopto? Make sure to enable Panopto in your course.
• Organize content.
• Customize Pages.
• Add and link files in Canvas courses.
• Set up assignments in Canvas.
• Check the course grading scheme.
• Organize the Course Navigation Menu.
• Publish the course, content, and assessments to make these items available to students.
• Check your Canvas Notification preferences.

During the semester

• Send Canvas communications.
• Post Announcements in a course.
• Sort the SpeedGrader.
• Provide feedback using SpeedGrader.
• Enter grades in the SpeedGrader.
• Set Automatic 0s in the gradebook.
• Review Gradebook Dos and Dont’s.

End of semester

• Ensure Automatic 0s are set.
• Review the Gradebook Dos and Don’ts.
• Ensure the course grading scheme is correct.
• Import grades from Canvas to Pathway.
