The UMKC Instructional Design & Technology team would like to express a warm welcome to the latest addition: Instructional Technologist Rio Sloan. No stranger to the world of eLearning, Rio previously worked as a Multimedia/Online course developer at Kansas City Community College. In that role, she assisted faculty and students on LMS issues via the Helpdesk, developed instructional media and eLearning content for support and training, and trained faculty on educational technology tools.

Prior to that, Rio held the position of video editor for ALTACOMM where she created videos for corporate meetings, internal and external events, employees and executives, online and marketing use for the university as well as the other subsidiaries of the DALTA Group of Companies.

Rio earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Perpetual Help System Data and will complete her Master of Distance Education from the same university. Her career interests include eLearning, educational technology, multimedia development, OER, and accessibility.
In her spare time, Rio juggles between having fun with her toddler and their dog, Kumi, cooking (and snacking), and watching anima and Critical Role.
“I am excited to be part of the IDT team,” Rio said. “They are a great group of people to work with. I look forward to assisting the faculty and staff at UMKC and provide the support they need every semester.”
