Overview
The women's health nurse practitioner (WHNP) track prepares students for advanced practice nursing in the management of gynecological, prenatal and primary care of women. Advanced practice nurses (APRNs) provide high-quality health care services in a wide range of problems from acute, chronic and wellness care to health promotion, disease prevention, health education and counseling. The core courses provide a solid foundation in the use of evidence-based practice guidelines and theory as a basis for the diagnosis and treatment of illness and the promotion of wellness. Clinical experiences are precepted in community or outpatient settings.
The MSN-educated nurse practitioner is prepared to enter advanced practice, ready to assume responsibility and accountability for the health promotion, assessment, diagnosis and management of patient problems including the prescription of pharmacologic agents within a specialty area of clinical practice.
Graduates take the national certification exam for their specialty and practice as a nurse practitioner in any area of the United States.

Program Structure
Delivery of this program is blended: You will complete most course work online, but on-campus visits are required. Courses are semester-based. Full-time students may take three courses per semester and finish in two years. Part-time students may take one or two courses per semester and finish in three years.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States.
On-campus residencies are required for the online programs. Faculty will provide more information prior to each scheduled on-campus residency which occurs during your clinical course work. Online course work may require synchronous online class times. These dates are scheduled in advance and communicated on the schedule for the semester.
Successful completion of the program requires 46 credit hours of course work.

How to Apply
Fulfill the admission requirements
A minimum of one-year, full-time equivalent clinical experience within the past three years is required for admission.
Minimum of two years, full-time equivalent clinical experience within the past three years
BSN from a college or university nationally recognized by a nursing accrediting agency (CCNE or AACN)
Minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (calculated on the last 60 hours of your BSN degree).
Current unencumbered Missouri licensure or unencumbered licensure in the state in which the student completes clinical requirements
Minimum grade of B in these prerequisite courses: graduate-level statistics and free-standing undergraduate health assessment course. These courses may be taken during the first semester of MSN courses though it is strongly recommended to have them completed prior to applying.
A personal interview is required.

Faculty professor from the last year of your BSN program.
Professional reference able to assess your professional characteristics (charge nurse, medical doctor, nurse practitioner, unit director)

Current résumé reflecting all experiences as an RN
Proof of RN licensure
Personal Statement of your professional goals (specific to the role/track to which you are applying) and how this program will help you achieve them (required length: one page maximum)
