The University of Missouri-Kansas City is an institutional member of WCET (the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies). WCET, a Boulder, Colorado-based higher education organization, is a national, membership-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of effective practices and policies, advancing excellence in technology-enhanced teaching and learning in higher education.  WCET is nationally recognized as one of the most informative, reliable and forward-thinking organizations regarding the role of technology and innovation in higher education.

Given how technology touches every aspect of all areas of our university and administration, UMKC administration, faculty, and staff are invited to check out the informative resources and valuable sharing of ideas, practices and policies that happen through WCET’s community of 380+ colleges, universities, and organizations. All UMKC administrators and staff are invited to sign up to receive WCET communications available to only to its members.

WCET facilitates important discussions and activities throughout the year.  Currently, institutional responses to COVID and plans to support students and faculty in the Fall and beyond is a priority.  But WCET also is working with its Steering Committee and membership to produce resources on state reciprocity for online programs, reauthorization of the federal higher education act, accessibility, open educational resources (OER), student success, management of e-learning, adaptive learning, and the wide range of topics that our members themselves bring to the conversation.

To support the sharing of WCET resources and promising practices from its national membership, WCET has a community platform called wcetMIX [https://wcetmix.wiche.edu/home].  When you sign up for wcetMIX, you will gain access to two valuable resources to stay informed and share ideas with colleagues nationally about the use of technology to improve teaching and learning.

To join wcetMIX, just send an email to Laurie Klusman with your name, title, department, and @umkc.edu email. Include in the subject line: Please Subscribe to wcetMIX.  Please specify which lists below you would like to join.

  • WCETNews – One of the most valuable resources I receive via this email list are WCET’s weekly article digests.  WCET produces a compilation of national news related to higher ed and technology, in three categories – academic, technology and policy. It is a great way to stay on top of what is happening in higher ed and technology. Also, members can advertise job openings via WCET’s Friday Job Posts.
  • WCETDiscuss – This is WCET’s moderated list for discussions. There are excellent exchanges and sharing via this list over a wide range of issues – from how instructional design is organized to adjunct faculty pay to integration of web collaboration tools and more. WCET’s membership includes resources from institutions of all sizes and sectors across the country.

Also please encourage other members of your team to become more engaged with WCET. It is a community of more than 4,000 experienced and passionate educators who are willing to share their practices and policies and oftentimes give you a benchmark for your work.  WCET’s website is full of useful resources related to WCET’s primary focus areas: Emerging Technologies, Faculty Success, Student Success, Policy & Regulations, and Institutional Success.
