Why is UMKC conducting a Canvas pilot?
In the interest of student achievement, UMKC strives to implement the best learning technology and teaching practices. As digital education becomes more popular students expect and deserve the highest quality academic experience both on campus and online. A thorough investigation into our current and potential Learning Management System options will benefit the overall mission and vision of the university.
Which LMS is used by the other system campuses?
The other three campuses (Columbia, Rolla, and St. Louis) in the University of Missouri system have each independently made the decision to migrate their Learning Management System to Canvas by Instructure.
How did UMKC make this decision?
The UMKC committee charged with making recommendations to leadership pertaining to online and distance learning is the eLearning Advisory Committee (eLAC). In April, 2017, eLAC voted in the affirmative on the question “Should UMKC undertake a feasibility study associated with moving UMKC’s Learning Management System from Blackboard to Canvas?”.
