In January, the University of Missouri – Kansas City began transitioning from the Blackboard learning management system (LMS) to the Canvas LMS. A limited number of courses are included in Phase I of this transition, which spans both spring and summer 2018. Faculty included in Phase I will provide recommendations on how to improve UMKC’s transition to Canvas.
Beginning fall 2018, UMKC enters Phase II of the transition. All courses will have a Canvas course site for fall. Faculty can migrate Blackboard course content to Canvas in preparation for the fall semester. Those faculty wishing to teach in Blackboard for fall 2018 are required to request a Blackboard course site. A request form will soon be available within the Blackboard Request System for this purpose.
Summer 2019 marks the final opportunity to transition to Canvas and the completion of Phase II. By fall 2019, all online courses will be taught in Canvas and Blackboard will no longer be available.
Additional information is available on the UMKC Canvas Transition website. As the transition progresses, the site will be updated with current information and additional resources.
