Academic Support and Mentoring

Academic Support and Mentoring (ASM) uses knowledge derived from research to solve learning problems in student academic achievement. Through the integration of theory and practice, ASM develops effective programs to help you realize your full potential.


The Office of Registration and Records can help you register for classes, verify enrollment, request a transcript, understand financial aid, and learn about veterans benefits.

UMKC Central

The mission of UMKC Central is to promote student success by leveraging technology and other resources to: provide interactive enrollment resources, offer exceptional customer service, and provide a single location enhanced by a virtual presence to address enrollment and business needs.

Financial Aid

Student Handbook

Download Student Handbook

The Student Handbook will help you get to know the University, become familiar with its policies and procedures, and aid in your success while at UMKC – in the classroom and beyond. Topics are divided into categories, allowing you to access closely related subjects easily and quickly.

The Handbook also contains the Student Code of Conduct and information on how to be an engaged member of our community. All students are responsible for knowing the information this handbook contains.

Tutoring Help

UMKC offers face-to-face and live online tutoring to student in many subjects and on different levels. You can receive tutoring by walking into the tutoring center or making an appointment with our consultants.

All tutoring services are free to students. If you choose to get live online tutoring, you may need a webcam and microphone if you wish to communicate with your tutor. Here are four services we offer at UMKC:

Disability Services

Office of Services for Students with Disabilities

Assists UMKC students with disabilities by providing academic accommodations and support services.

Diversity, Access and Equity

The Division of Diversity, Access and Equity combines the efforts of the former Diversity In Action and Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action offices. They assist faculty and staff members with disabilities.

Disability Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee on UMKC Students with Disabilities is a partnership with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, the UMKC Campus and UMKC’s students with disabilities for the purpose of advising and consulting on the campus-wide experience of students with disabilities with the expectation that the success of students with disabilities at UMKC is everyone’s responsibility.

Miller Nichols Library Services for Individuals with DisabilitiesThe Miller Nichols Library is committed to providing access to information and library resources for all users and has adaptive technology workstations with screen reading and magnifying software, scanner-readers, CCTVs, and Braille embossers to enable this access.

IS Computer Labs Adaptive EquipmentMany of the UMKC’s computer labs provide adaptive equipment for persons with visual disabilities or wheelchair access needs. This equipment consists of tables with adjustable height, screen magnifiers and text-to-speech software.

Assess for Success

The Assess for Success program helps students with academic performance by providing a cost-effective assessment service targeted to individual needs. The program is designed for individuals who may be experiencing difficulty due to study skills, unique learning styles, test anxiety, learning disabilities, or attention and focus issues.

Institute for Human Development

The Institute for Human Development is an applied research and training center for human services. It exemplifies UMKC’s dedication to academic excellence and a campus without borders by helping people, agencies, and the community reach their fullest potential.
